SDG 11.4.9 Building on brownfield sites

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) follows Taiwan’s Green Building Label standards for all new construction. A green building minimizes resource use, energy consumption, and waste throughout its life cycle, from the production of materials to demolition. CYCU has no buildings on brownfield land.
The Zhixing Navigation Building, completed in 2020, received the Diamond-level Green Building Label by meeting eight criteria: greenery, soil water retention, energy saving, CO₂ reduction, waste reduction, water resources, and sewage and waste improvement. The five-year certification was renewed in August 2025 and remains valid until August 2030.
In front of Hsin Shih Hall, CYCU established the “CYCU Tribe,” an Indigenous learning base of about 3,230 square meters. The site brings natural ecology into education and hosts annual cultural events such as the Harvest Festival and the Bean Festival, which promote cultural heritage and sustainability.
