Energy Management and Energy Generation Development

In response to government energy conservation and carbon reduction policies, Chung Yuan, upholding its school motto of “Faithful and Diligent” and its educational philosophy of respecting nature and humanity, has established an energy conservation management mechanism and introduced the ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) in September 2022 to strengthen energy strategy planning and execution effectiveness, improve energy use efficiency, and create a low-carbon green campus.
In 2022, Chung Yuan signed the “Energy Policy Declaration,” committing to compliance with regulations, improving energy efficiency, adopting green products, and promoting the application of clean energy. Through institutionalized management and continuous improvement, Chung Yuan actively reduces environmental impacts and moves toward the goals of energy conservation, carbon reduction, and sustainable development.

Energy Conservation Management

Building energy conservation is an important aspect of implementing energy management. The EEWH green building evaluation system and labeling scheme are adopted to strengthen energy-saving benefits from aspects such as the building envelope, air conditioning, and lighting, thereby improving overall energy use performance. At the same time, through the energy management plan, energy consumption data analysis, and equipment optimization management, energy use conditions are accurately grasped, energy-saving improvements are continuously promoted, and the four major energy-saving tasks are implemented (as shown in the figure), laying the foundation for building a campus that values both high efficiency and sustainability.

Water Conservation Operating Mechanism

In the face of climate change and pressure from water resource supply and demand, Chung Yuan has established “sustainable use of water resources” and “water use security” as its core goals and built a comprehensive water conservation operating mechanism that integrates institutional management, technical applications, and educational advocacy to improve overall campus water use efficiency and water resource resilience. Campus water use is mainly sourced from the tap water system, supplemented by groundwater, rainwater, and reclaimed water for non-potable purposes. Through a dual water supply system, contact and non-contact water use needs are distinguished, and dual water towers and rainwater storage facilities are installed to reduce tap water use and improve the benefits of circular use of water resources.
In terms of water conservation strategies, promotion is carried out from four major aspects: “water use reduction, rainwater (alternative water) reuse, water recycling and circulation, and smart monitoring management”. In terms of water use reduction, comprehensive water-saving equipment has been introduced, such as dual-flush toilets, water-saving faucets, and waterless urinals, effectively reducing water and energy consumption; in terms of rainwater (alternative water) use, multiple Water Conservation and Resource Circular Management 119 Energy and Resource Management and Circularity rainwater recycling systems and storage facilities have been established for toilet flushing and irrigation; in terms of water resource recycling, systems such as wastewater effluent, swimming pool backwash water, RO drainage, and process drainage have been integrated, with considerable annual recycling volume, and data management and benefit evaluation continue to be strengthened through flow monitoring.

Circular Operations Management

Chung Yuan takes “circular economy” as its core concept and integrates resource reuse, waste reduction, and educational innovation to build a campus circular operations management model. Through institutionalized platforms, innovative facilities, and interdisciplinary teaching, we promote the practice of resources “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” to create a sustainable campus with educational and demonstrative value.
