About Our Program
For nine years, students from our university have formed international volunteer teams to train local youth in remote Cambodian villages as English volunteer teachers. By nurturing “seed teachers,” the program expands rural children’s access to education and supports Cambodia’s goal of poverty reduction through learning.
In 2017, Team Cambodia 12 focused on enhancing English education in Puok District, Siem Reap Province. The team partnered with the local NGO KAKO and the Puok District Office of Education, gaining broad recognition for the Village English Seed Teacher Workshop, which was tailored to meet local needs through joint efforts with both sectors.
Our Initiatives
Based on English textbooks designated by the local government, we developed a Teacher’s Handbook tailored to the local educational context. The handbook features easily replicable teaching strategies and instructional tools, guiding educators in creating lively and engaging English lesson plans.
一、 Teacher’s Workshop:
Volunteers from our university facilitate workshops that introduce teaching topics, methods, and materials aligned with six core themes: lesson plan design, gestures and body language, songs, rhymes, picture books, and games. These workshops also include group discussions, presentation drills, and collaborative feedback sessions, enabling local seed teachers to refine their teaching techniques and classroom practices.
二、 Children’s Camp:
Our team provides demonstration lessons, followed by hands-on teaching practice for Cambodian participants. Local teachers apply the weekly workshop themes directly in village elementary schools. Each week concludes with a collaborative review and feedback session, allowing teachers to reflect on and enhance their lesson plans.
