Research Projects<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This study looks at how to make better use of wind energy in Taiwan\u2019s wind-rich coastal areas, which matters for both energy conservation and emissions reduction. It focuses on offshore wind farms and recognizes the serious threat that typhoons pose, since their extreme wind speeds and turbulence can damage turbines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main objective is to maximize power generation by placing small-scale wind turbines among existing large-scale units. The method involves assessing wind resources and simulating wind fields along Taiwan\u2019s coast. In particular, it analyzes the wake effect of the large turbines each year to identify the best installation zones for smaller turbines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finally, the study calculates the annual average power generation at these locations and compares the wind field before and after installation. The results provide a reliable simulation method for wind turbine planning, which supports Taiwan\u2019s 2050 Net-Zero Emissions strategy (wind and solar PV, and energy saving) and helps the domestic small-scale wind turbine industry and related academic research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
2. Led by Chung Yuan Christian University, the \u201cBenefit Assessment and Decision Support for Net-Zero Carbon Reduction and Air Pollution Improvement Strategies\u201d project builds a decision-support framework that links net-zero strategies to air quality and health benefits in Taiwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Using TEDS12 emission inventories, CMAQ\u2013RSM simulations, and DeepCTM deep learning models, the study speeds up air quality predictions under SSP2-4.5 scenarios. Localized BenMAP databases quantify the economic and health co-benefits, showing that enhanced reduction scenarios can bring annual PM2.5 below 10 \u03bcg\/m\u00b3 and avoid premature deaths, which provides key support for Taiwan\u2019s 2050 net-zero goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Led by Chung Yuan Christian University, the \u201cResearch on Fault Currents in Integrated Energy Systems\u201d project supports Taiwan\u2019s 2050 Net-Zero Emissions Pathway by examining Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) alongside renewable energy and storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The study reviews international SMR technology, real-world applications, and case studies of Integrated Energy Systems (IES). Using a regional grid model of a typical Taiwan Power Company secondary substation, the project simulates power flows and static fault currents under different IES operating modes. It also explores protection coordination design to ensure system safety, grid stability, and the integration of clean energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2024 iENA Nuremberg Invention Fair Success: CYCU Wins 1 Gold, 2 Silvers, and 1 Special Award<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the 76th International Trade Fair Ideas-Inventions-New Products (iENA) in Nuremberg, Germany, Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) won one Gold Medal, two Silver Medals, and one Special Award with its four entries. Distinguished Professor Shih-Lun Chen (Department of Electronic Engineering) won Gold for a miniaturized atmospheric pressure sensor chip that has been mass-produced and commercialized in Taiwan. Professor Wei-Jen Liu (Department of Chemical Engineering) and Professor Min-Hua Chen (Department of Biomedical Engineering) each won Silver, for a high-density graphene all-solid-state lithium battery and a painless Imiquimod microneedle patch, respectively. Professor Yu-Kun Lai (Department of Electrical Engineering) received a Special Award for a low-latency TCP reassembly method for high-frequency trading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
CYCU Partners with NVIDIA for Major Breakthrough in Quantum Computing: Accelerating Solar Energy Forecasting for Sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
A research team at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), led by Vice President and Chair Professor Ying-Yi Hong, worked with NVIDIA to make a major advance in solar radiation forecasting. Running hybrid quantum neural networks on the NVIDIA CUDA-Q platform, the model trained 2.7 times faster and cut error rates by a factor of 3.4. The findings were published in IEEE Access<\/em>. Under Chair Professor Cheming Tsai, CYCU\u2019s Quantum Information Center works with the Foxconn Foundation on quantum literacy and has partnered with NTU, Formosa Plastics, and Fujitsu to apply digital annealing to materials screening, work that was featured on the cover of I&EC<\/em>. Together with Professor Yu-Ping Liao\u2019s \u201cQuantum Sphere\u201d teaching aid, which won a Gold Medal in Nuremberg, these projects show that CYCU continues to lead in cutting-edge quantum research and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
CYCU Hosts Advanced Membrane Technology Forum: Taiwan-Japan Cross-Border Collaboration in Advanced Medical and Green Energy Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
With support from the Higher Education Sprout Project, the R&D Center for Membrane Technology at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) hosted the \u201c2025 Advanced Membrane Technology Forum\u201d in mid-July 2025. Leading scholars and graduate students from Taiwan and Japan discussed key topics in precision medicine, biomedical membranes, and green technology, including zwitterionic anti-fouling modification and radiation functionalization. Center Director and Chair Professor Yung Chang pointed to concrete results: graduate students from Japan\u2019s Kumamoto University received NSTC subsidies for a three-month collaborative research stay at CYCU in autumn 2025, and a technical partnership was established with Japan\u2019s QST, which expands the Asia-Pacific research network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
