{"id":12020,"date":"2026-11-02T18:58:32","date_gmt":"2026-11-02T10:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdgs.cycu.edu.tw\/?p=12020"},"modified":"2026-11-02T19:39:23","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T11:39:23","slug":"sdg-7-2-3-carbon-reduction-and-emission-reduction-process-en-translation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sdgs.cycu.edu.tw\/?p=12020&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"SDG 7.2.3 Carbon reduction and emission reduction process"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Energy-saving air conditioning:<\/strong> An energy-saving improvement budget is prepared every year, and older energy-consuming air-conditioning equipment is replaced with new high-efficiency units.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lighting energy conservation:<\/strong> A budget is prepared each year to replace traditional lamps in teaching and office spaces with energy-saving LED lamps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increasing renewable energy:<\/strong> Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) actively promotes solar photovoltaic installations to increase its green electricity self-sufficiency. It began with small rooftop systems at the Architecture and Wei-Che Buildings (about 3,000 kWh\/yr). In 2017 it expanded to a 180.46 kWp system across key administrative buildings (about 200,000 kWh\/yr). In 2023 it adopted a tender-lease model to add a 1,510 kWp system across sports facilities and parking areas (grid-connected in 2024), followed by 350 kWp at Lih-Hsing Dormitory in 2025. Going forward, CYCU will continue to use idle roof space under a self-generation, self-consumption model to reduce its reliance on purchased electricity and move toward a low-carbon campus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Green procurement:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chung Yuan promotes green office practices built on \u201cenergy conservation and carbon reduction, resource circulation, and behavioral change,\u201d reducing the environmental impact of administrative operations through systematic management and daily practice. I. Hardware: Environmentally friendly building materials and energy-saving designs are given priority, and energy-saving equipment and biodegradable consumables are introduced. II. Software: The University promotes paperless operations and digital administrative processes, and uses education and training to build green habits among employees, including saving water and energy and reducing waste. III. Plastic reduction: The University no longer provides single-use tableware or bottled water, encourages employees to bring their own eco-friendly products, and has introduced reusable containers. Chung Yuan has also gradually built a low-carbon office culture through energy-saving habits such as turning off lights during lunch breaks, controlling air-conditioning temperatures, and shutting down equipment. In addition, documents are regularly pulped and resources reduced to cut paper use and waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Advancing sustainable transportation:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Green transportation promotes low-pollution, energy-saving, and smart transportation tools to create a safe, comfortable, environmentally friendly, and mutually beneficial transport environment. Its main focus is low-pollution transportation suited to urban settings. Chung Yuan\u2019s green transportation program has four parts: public transportation, a carpooling system, bicycles and walking, and low-pollution vehicles. Public transportation is the main mode, with bicycles and walking as supplementary green modes. The University joined the \u201cYouBike Carbon Reduction Passbook\u201d promotion program, and its faculty, staff, and students are supporting net-zero emissions through concrete action. A total of 299 faculty, staff, and students joined the University\u2019s organizational group on the YouBike Carbon Reduction Passbook app, and their cumulative annual carbon reduction reached 1,018 kg CO\u2082e. Daily commuting has also become a measurable campus sustainability indicator, which both encourages green transportation and helps the campus meet specific carbon reduction targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Campus Carbon Emissions Monitoring (Greenhouse Gas Inventory)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chung Yuan\u2019s greenhouse gas inventory follows ISO 14064-1:2018 and uses the operational control approach, with 2023 as the base year. Since 2022, in addition to the core Category 1 and 2 inventories, the University has worked to expand the inventory items for Categories 3, 4, and 5 (Scope 3), gradually adding industrial waste, electricity used by contracted vendors, water, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, and upstream carbon footprints to the calculations. Because purchased electricity is the main source of campus greenhouse gas emissions, Chung Yuan\u2019s reduction measures focus on systematic energy-saving management, and this shows in the year-by-year decline in Category 2 emissions. After the inventory report is completed, a 4-day internal verification is carried out by a team of certified faculty and staff. Drawing on their deep knowledge of university operations, they offer practical suggestions for improvement and discuss how to refine the report, which both transfers experience and improves report quality. The 2024 and 2025 inventory data also passed third-party verification by BSI, and verification statements were issued. The information is disclosed on the University\u2019s official website to build stakeholder trust. During 2024\u20132025, three digital tools were introduced: a business travel carbon emissions system, a greenhouse gas information management and inventory system, and a refrigerant collection system.
