SDG 6.5.7 Promoting conscious water usage in the wider community.

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), a founding member of the Green University Union of Taiwan, actively shares water resource management and conservation awareness with off-campus communities, local residents, and international partners:

  • Global Outreach and Heritage: CYCU delivered water sanitation education in Surabaya, Indonesia, and led international youth camps that explored Taoyuan’s historic irrigation ponds (“Tanghan”) and greywater recycling practices.
  • Community Stewardship: CYCU supported 3 hectares of pesticide-free farming at Heping Wetland Farm to reduce water contamination, prepared 380 mountain residents and students for climate-related disasters, and mobilized youth volunteers to clear marine debris from the coast.
  • Public Waterfront and Global Forum: CYCU worked with city authorities to turn the 678-meter Daniulan Creek into an accessible eco-waterfront. It also hosted the “2025 Taoyuan Ponds International Forum,” with experts from the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Malaysia, and Taiwan, and won a Global Views USR Award for its work on water reuse and community-wide water governance.
