SDG 6.5.1 Water management educational opportunities

To promote water resources management, Chung Yuan Christian University offers educational programs, both free and fee-based, for local communities and others outside the University. Examples include:
Climate Change and Health Collaboration and Community Environmental Health Education in Surabaya, Indonesia
Faculty members from the Department of Environmental Engineering visited universities in Surabaya, Indonesia, to explore possible collaborations. Their agenda included building links with government health and environmental agencies, collecting health data, applying AI modeling, and developing early-warning apps. They also visited local communities and met clinicians, NGOs, and corporate representatives to discuss education and empowerment programs for women built around the project’s core themes: the connection between climate change and health, and the prevention of diarrheal diseases. In addition, they ran environmental health education sessions on climate change and health, covering infectious and diarrheal diseases, at a top-ranked Islamic high school and two primary schools.

Heping Wetland Ecological Farm: Rescuing Ponds and Restoring Ecosystems

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) works with a local farm to promote ecological and water resource education. The farm partners with CYCU and the Taoyuan City Cultural Affairs Bureau on eco-education and on restoring “Tanghan,” the traditional watergates of the area’s irrigation ponds. Its founder also maintains the field ridges and champions pesticide-free farming, and has expanded eco-friendly farmland to 3 hectares. The farm plans to become a certified environmental education facility, with the aim of passing the work on to the next generation and ensuring long-term care of the local ecosystem.
