Chung Yuan Christian University is a private university in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. It was founded in 1955 as a Christian institution by American pastors and others, with the support of local community leaders in Zhongli. It began as Chungli Agricultural and Industrial College and became a university on August 1, 1980, when it took its current name.
The area around the University’s Pei Campus has grown into the Chung Yuan Night Market (around Shih-Cheng Road and Rih-Hsin Road in Zhongli District). The old campus gate, whose M-shaped design led students to call it the “McDonald’s Gate” or “Bread Gate,” was relocated in 2012.

The Department of Architecture building in the College of Design has been registered as a historic building by Taoyuan City. It reflects the modernist style of the 1960s and 1970s, with brutalist features. Its floor plan shows the modernist approach to functional spatial organization and circulation that was popular at the time, and its exposed concrete expresses the materials of the era. It is an important example of post-war architectural heritage.
The Department of Architecture building is open to the public, and stone benches are provided for visitors to rest.
