SDG 12.2.1 Ethical sourcing policy

Chung Yuan Christian University requires its contracted suppliers to comply with relevant regulations in order to promote responsible consumption and production. Its policies on the ethical sourcing of food and supplies include:

  • Food and ingredient purchasing: Suppliers must sign contracts with the University pledging to comply with relevant regulations, including the Act Governing Food Sanitation, the School Sanitation Act, and the Agricultural Products Production and Certification Management Act. They must provide food and ingredients that meet the required standards. Priority is given to high-quality local agricultural products covered by the traceability system promoted by the central agricultural authority, and genetically modified raw ingredients and their primary processed products are strictly prohibited. Under Principle 3 of the University’s Principles for Hygiene Management in Restaurants and Food Establishments, restaurant operators must also comply with relevant government regulations when purchasing food.

  • Equipment and construction material purchasing: When purchasing software and hardware, consumables, and construction materials, the University gives priority to suppliers whose products carry one of the five major green labels: the environmental protection label, energy saving label, water saving label, green building material label, and carbon label.

Under Article 9 of the University’s Procurement Regulations, and in response to the Ministry of Education’s evaluation of environmental safety and health management in universities, the University follows energy and resource management policies by giving priority to Category I eco-label products, Category II environmentally friendly products, and Category III products such as water-saving, energy-saving, and green building materials, thereby helping to protect the global environment.
